    Kuching Adventures

Not quite an adventure trip, if I were completely honest. But it's the first time I am here so it counts!

It's great that this is a trip for architecture students, because we got to see some really old buildings and learn about their history and function (and many more technical jargon that only the Singapore Polytechnic students would understand). I know it doesn't sound like much, but it really is great! Plus, 17-19 year-olds are so much easier to manage than 14-15 year-olds.

We've been to see a very interesting museum, been on a sampan, had steamboat dinner and more! The most memorable part of the trip so far for me, is Siniawan - an old town preserved and conserved by a group of volunteers and led by one of Sarawak's most famous architects. No, I don't know him or remember his name. LOL. It is a fantastic project though! I loved the old town charm and the kinds of items you can find in the provision shops there.

Here are a few pictures from the last couple of days...

One of the seven traditional type houses in Sarawak Cultural Village.

Nothing here really... I just really liked how the trees flanked the road. There were more on the left side, but I couldn't get them in frame.

I'm in a sampan! This thing rocked really hard when we were getting in. There were screams and laughter, and we all managed to keep dry throughout.

That's our other group behind us! Only 10 of us could get into one boat at a time.

Tracy and I at our BBQ steamboat dinner. We were smiling so widely cos we saw the amount of food available!

The five-foot walkways in Siniawan. The shophouses here are still mainly made of timber which makes them a fire hazard. Ironically, they are more worried about the frequent flooding from the river just behind these shops.

Fabulous time so far, minus the mosquitoes at the Sarawak Cultural Village. Tomorrow is a day of leisure and shopping!
